Club One at Freescale Semiconductor in Chandler and Tempe, AZ is offering corporate wellness internships for students working towards a degree in exercise science, health education, or a health related field.  Interns will gain experience in fitness testing, personal training, exercise prescription, and development and implementation of motivational programs.  Other duties include floor supervision, new member orientations, recreational events, teaching group exercise classes and daily operations.  Potential interns must possess CPR and First Aid certifications.  Interns must have good communication skills, a strong desire to motivate and a positive attitude.  If interested, please contact Amy Abernethy at (480) 413-3635 or by email at r7238c@freescale.com

USAA is located in Colorado Springs, CO; Norfolk, VA; Phoenix, AZ; Sacramento, CA; San Antonio, TX and Tampa, FL is offering 12 – 16 week corporate fitness internships open to all graduating seniors in an exercise science, health promotion or wellness leadership degree programs.  The intern will become fully proficient in the following areas:  graded exercise testing, exercise prescription, group exercise class instruction, wellness presentations, personal training, ACSM protocol and certification preparation, nutrition, recreation event planning, facility and equipment operations, budgeting, incentive programming and time management.  This is a very comprehensive internship experience guaranteed to prepare you for a career in the fitness field. Must have great communication skills and be motivated to learn.

 

San Antonio location only:  Recreation Internship – available to graduating seniors majoring in Recreation/Sports Management.

A 12-16 week program focusing on:

Recreation Programming – plan and schedule team sports leagues and tournaments.

Special Event Planning – plan, organize and administer family events.

Marketing – develop skills to market recreation programs across a diverse culture

ChevronTexaco Health Quest Program has internships available in Texas, California, and Mississippi. Interested candidates should be in the process of pursuing a degree in health promotion, exercise science, nutrition or other related health degree. Health Quest sites range from fitness center settings to corporate-based health promotion (office settings). Depending on location, interns will gain experience with multiple facets of health education and injury prevention including the development implementation and evaluation of health promotion programs, facilitation of health education workshops (public speaking), organization of health fairs, interaction with health & safety committees, physicians, employee assistance advisors and nurses, experience with Health Risk Appraisals, exercise testing/prescription, daily operations within an exercise facility, and involvement on a variety of special projects. Apple, Inc. (Cupertino, CA): Apple Wellness offers a hands-on internship for undergraduate and graduate students in the field of exercise physiology, health and wellness and kinesiology. The internship offers experience in both the Fitness Center and in the Preventive Care settings. Students gain practical experience in lifestyle counseling, exercise prescription, and exercise leadership for a large and diverse population. Interns will have the opportunity to assist with clinical testing including resting and exercise EKG’s, maximal stress testing and VO2-max testing. The students must have completed coursework in exercise physiology, health promotion, Kinesiology or a similar curriculum, and be knowledgeable of ACSM guidelines. Good communication skills and high level of professionalism are essential; patient/client interaction is a vital aspect of our program. Interns are expected to be highly motivated, organized, self-directed and open to feedback to insure a beneficial internship experience. Motorola Premier Employee Services Wellness Program, located in Phoenix, Arizona & Austin, Texas offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to experience corporate fitness and Wellness promotion in a high-tech Fortune 500 semiconductor company. Students function in a team-oriented work environment and are given responsibility for major projects. Services include wellness, fitness, work life initiatives, and childcare with a focus on personal and organizational resilience. Staff members act as mentors, monitoring progress toward goals. Internships are structured to meet specific needs of the individual student to comply with sponsoring academic guidelines and to meet specific business needs and initiatives.
Fitness internships are also available with the following responsibilities: working in a corporate Activity Center assisting with member enrollment, facilitating fitness appointments, health assessments, exercise programs, instruction, goal setting, and regulating the fitness floor. Scripps Center for Executive Health, in La Jolla, California, offers internships throughout the year to undergraduate and graduate students interested in Exercise Physiology and/or Kinesiology. Responsibilities include: body composition testing using BIA and skin folds, flexibility assessment with goniometer, assisting cardiologist with maximal treadmills using the Bruce protocol, checking heart rates and blood pressures, calculating exercise prescriptions, assisting doctors with procedures during the physical exam, completing health risk appraisals, observing and being involved in exercise consultations. The student intern is required to fulfill a minimum of 400 hours, Monday-Friday, beginning at 6:45 am, and be BLS certified.  We are sorry, but we do not offer a stipend, housing or job placement assistance.  Applicants should have a strong background in exercise physiology, kinesiology, and anatomy. Medical requirements include: TB screening within the last 12 months, proof of Rubella immunity, proof of Varicella (chicken pox) immunity. University/colleges are required to sign an affiliation agreement stating that the school will provide indemnification and insurance for the student. Applicants must ensure their school will sign such a contract before officially applying.

The Oaks at Ojai is a residential health resort located in Southern California. The resort offers full time internships to college students. Positions are open to sophomore through graduate level students in any major, and particularly health and fitness oriented majors and management majors. Guests come to the spa for stress reduction, fitness gain, and weight loss, and to learn the basics of healthy living. We offer a low fat menu, 16 fitness classes daily and a variety of evening lectures. Students will have the opportunity to experience all practical phases of running a residential health spa. The program focuses on working with the management team, teaching fitness classes, front desk, reservations, and the kitchen and housekeeping departments. A concentration in any area is dependent upon the intern's skills and interest. Experience and certification teaching group exercise classes is a must. By living on site, the intern can aid us in providing exceptional guest service. Interns are provided room, meals, use of the facilities, and a $50 per week stipend. Internships extend 12-15 weeks and are offered year round.
