Training Systems periodically has openings for its Internship Program. The Internship Program is an
excellent way to
learn first-hand the coaching methodology and techniques of the number
one
coaching company in the world. The
program is intended for those who intend to become permanent CTS
coaches
following their internship. CTS
is a
growing company and is always looking for highly-qualified candidates
who are
interested in becoming a CTS coach. Here
is a brief overview of the CTS coaching development program. LEARNING
THE CTS METHOD Interns are
assigned to a “pod” of coaches with a variety of
athletic and coaching
backgrounds and areas of expertise.
Each
pod is led by a coach with at least 3 years experience at CTS who has
demonstrated great mentorship ability.
Interns
are expected to master a vast array of training and physiology-related
knowledge through interaction with our Senior Coaches and through
guided work
and self-study. Interns
obtain valuable
professional experience and education while learning the applied
concepts of
exercise physiology and biomechanics. After
several weeks of study and training, interns begin designing training
plans for
“mock” athletes. Once interns demonstrate a solid
understanding of the CTS
coaching philosophy and methodology, they may begin coaching athletes
under the
close tutelage of their pod leader using our online coaching software
and by phone. Every
CTS coach develops unique,
individual training schedules for each athlete they coach. The internship
is a 40-hour a week program; 8 a.m.-5 p.m., that lasts six-months. Interns may be required to
stay late or come
in early to assist with This is an
unpaid internship, although successful interns who have demonstrated
readiness will
be assigned athletes to coach, and will receive a small stipend for
such. Housing is
the responsibility of the intern. Housing
can sometimes be coordinated amongst
other interns or coaches to reduce costs. Upon
completion of the program, successful interns
may have the opportunity to enter a coaching career track with CTS. BECOMING A
CTS-CERTIFIED COACH Not all interns
are asked to stay with CTS upon completion of the program, but those
who have
shown dedication to coaching and who are passionate about making
coaching a
career choice have a very good chance of being asked to continue on
with us,
either as a full-time salaried employee at our Colorado Springs
headquarters or
one of our regional centers, or as an “independent
contractor” at the location
of their choosing. Whether
salaried or
independent, CTS coaches enjoy the tremendous advantage of being able
to focus
on coaching the athletes they are assigned or recruit, without worrying
about
the logistics and time-demands of marketing, billing, payment, etc. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants
preferably
have completed a Bachelor’s program in Exercise Science or a
related field, as
well as possess a strong interest in pursuing coaching as a career.
Relevant coursework may include Basic Anatomy and Physiology,
Exercise
Physiology, Biomechanics, and Nutrition. The applicant should also
possess a
basic knowledge of exercise testing and prescription and periodization
of
training. A strong
background in
athletics is desired, with experience in competitive endurance sports
preferred. Past
coaching experience is
also highly desired. Positions
are highly competitive and only exceptionally qualified applicants are
accepted. Interns
may begin the program
at any time, but January, May and November are the preferred starting
months. Roughly 2-4
interns work at CTS
at any given time. ADDITIONAL
