Overview

The Yates Memorial Field House was opened in 1979 and named in honor of Gerard F. Yates, S.J. The Field House is a "modern architectural wonder" that has 142,300 square feet of recreational space built underground. Kehoe Field, an all-weather playing surface on its roof, is home to intercollegiate, intramural, and recreational activity. This multifaceted recreational center offers value-packed memberships to Georgetown University students, Alumni, Faculty and Staff, and members of the local community.  Yates Field House offers a variety of programs in aquatics, fitness and wellness, intramural sports, sport clubs, and racquet sports.

 

Job Scope

Internships involve a 12-15 week, 20-30 hours/week, non-paid program.  One internship position is available for each semester.  Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Fitness Assessments
  • Attendance at Personal Training or Group Fitness Instructor Course
  • Wellness Fairs and Special Events
  • Fitness Incentive Programs
  • Health Promotion Flyers
  • Website Maintenance
  • Group Exercise Instruction
  • Free Registration to Southeast Collegiate Fitness Expo

Anticipated Spring Semester start date: January 14, 2008

 

Qualifications

Candidates must have a degree in a related field or working towards a degree and be CPR certified.  Group exercise and personal training experience preferred.  National certification highly recommended.  Excellent interpersonal and oral skills.  Able to work independently.  Ability to handle details accurately.  Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and databases needed.

USAA is located in Colorado Springs, CO; Norfolk, VA; Phoenix, AZ; Sacramento, CA; San Antonio, TX and Tampa, FL is offering 12 – 16 week corporate fitness internships open to all graduating seniors in an exercise science, health promotion or wellness leadership degree programs.  The intern will become fully proficient in the following areas:  graded exercise testing, exercise prescription, group exercise class instruction, wellness presentations, personal training, ACSM protocol and certification preparation, nutrition, recreation event planning, facility and equipment operations, budgeting, incentive programming and time management.  This is a very comprehensive internship experience guaranteed to prepare you for a career in the fitness field. San Antonio location only:  Recreation Internship – available to graduating seniors majoring in Recreation/Sports Management.

Our state-of-the-art facility offers a panoramic view of Philadelphia providing exciting opportunities for undergraduate students in the field of corporate fitness. The Hershey Company in Hershey, Pennsylvania, is offering 12-16 week internships to students enrolled in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Health and Physical Education, Health Promotion, Leisure or Recreation, Sport Science, Sport Management, or any other related degree program who are interested in gaining valuable experience working in their two corporate fitness centers. The main facility is a 35,000 sq. ft. multi-sport complex which features an Aerobics Room, a Gymnasium, an Indoor walking/running track, a Swimming pool and a variety of cardiovascular and weight training equipment. A smaller (12,000 sq. ft.) satellite facility is operated on the Corporate Headquarters Campus and features a variety of cardiovascular and weight training equipment, an Aerobic Room, a 1.6 miles Outdoor walking/jogging trail with a 20 station Fit Trail Circuit, and an Outdoor sand volleyball court. Interns will gain experience conducting various exercise tests, conducting health promotion and risk reduction programs; organizing and administering special programs; and developing and designing promotional material. The internship also provides an opportunity to develop advanced computer skills with the following programs: word processing, graphics, database management, diet analysis, health risk appraisal, and fitness testing. Fitness Internship at the Duke Diet and Fitness Center

 The 12-week fitness internship at the Duke University Diet & Fitness Center (DFC) provides undergraduate/graduate students with a well-rounded educational and practical experience at one of the world’s only multi-disciplinary lifestyle enhancement and residential obesity treatment programs. The DFC program is multidimensional including components of Fitness, Nutrition, Health Psychology, Medical, and Lifestyle Coaching. Interns will have the unique opportunity to experience the DFC in its entirety while primarily focusing on the Fitness component. The DFC is affiliated with Duke Medical Center, the southeast’s leading medical center.

 Opportunities include, but are not limited to, exercise prescription and monitoring, exercise heart rate and blood pressure monitoring, group exercise instruction, developing educational brochures/bulletin boards for clients, client evening activity organization and implementation, and a special project. Additionally, interns will have the opportunity to observe fitness assessments, educational lectures, surgical procedure(s), assist in body composition assessments and functional fitness testing, assist in the DFC research efforts, complete case studies on the DFC clientele, and complete article reviews on relevant fitness topics. Housing and two meals per day are provided.

 

Potential interns must write a letter of application, send a resume and two letters of reference to the Duke DFC. The application letter should include: session applying for, reason for application, strengths, anticipated contributions to the DFC program, previous experience, type of internship you anticipate, and any other information or ideas you feel are necessary. In addition applicants are expected to write a one page essay on your views and ideas relating to functional exercise training. This essay should include why functional exercise training may be important for overweight populations and how you would implement this type of program.

 The Frankford Hospital Wellness/Nutrition Centers in Philadelphia, PA, is offering internships to students or recent graduates in hospital wellness and nutrition programs to prepare them for possible employment in the field. The internship program is designed to be mutually rewarding to both Frankford Hospital Wellness Program members and interns. The intern will be given responsibilities similar to other health professionals in the Wellness/Nutrition Department. Students will have the opportunity to rotate in each specific area of the department and will spend 2-3 weeks with the following professionals to learn about the following positions: Wellness/Nutrition Director, Wellness Assistant, Wellness Aide, Exercise Physiologist, Exercise Physiologist/Cardiac Rehab, Dietitians, Physician Referral Counselor, Aerobic Coordinator, Nurses/ObGyn. Twice during the internship the intern will be asked to submit a written report, or a case study of a particular patient, or summarize their experiences regarding their role and participation as an intern with Frankford Hospital, and will be evaluated throughout the course of the program. Length of the internship is 12 weeks and is offered in May, September, and January.
