KSC
HEWP Internship
The Kennedy Space Center (KSC) Health Education and
Wellness Program (HEWP) is available to all Kennedy Space
Center and Cape Canaveral
Air Force Station employees as a division of occupational health provided by
Comprehensive Health Services, Inc. The
HEWP currently serves approximately 15,000 employees at the spaceport. The KSC HEWP
offers several program components including monthly health information
dissemination, health screenings, cardiovascular disease reduction program, women’s
health, worksite lectures, nutrition education, health fairs, and other

The HEWP intern will assist the Health Education
Administrator in every aspect of the HEWP as well as develop, implement and
evaluate newly created programs. The KSC HEWP Intern will also have the
opportunity to interact with other KSC occupational health programs. The KSC
HEWP currently offers one unpaid, 20-40hr/week intern position each semester
(fall, spring and summer) to a senior level undergraduate or graduate student
in health education, health promotion, public health, or wellness-related
field.

Responsibilities of position: The exercise physiology intern will
assist all testing (VO2 max, anaerobic threshold, REE, blood chemistry,
body composition) in the fitness laboratory at the University of Miami
Wellness Center. The intern will experience all aspects of the field
including exercise testing, exercise prescription and administrative
duties. Each intern is required to develop, implement and maintain a
semester long project/program related to the field. Additional
responsibilities include Assist with the LIFE Senior Strength Training
Program and perform routine functional tests on program participants.
Assist with the Cardiovascular Wellness Program, a scientifically based exercise
program for individuals at risk for heart disease. Assist with managing the
facility personal training program: responsibilities include coordinating
personal training clientele and provide continuing education for personal
trainers. Complete 40 hours of personal training healthy and special
population clients in the Wellness
Center. All
candidates should be enrolled in their final year of an accredited Exercise
science/physiology program and have some experience/course work in exercise
testing, fitness assessment and exercise prescription for special
