KSC HEWP Internship

 

 

The Kennedy Space Center (KSC) Health Education and Wellness Program (HEWP) is available to all Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station employees as a division of occupational health provided by Comprehensive Health Services, Inc.  The HEWP currently serves approximately 15,000 employees at the spaceport. The KSC HEWP offers several program components including monthly health information dissemination, health screenings, cardiovascular disease reduction program, women’s health, worksite lectures, nutrition education, health fairs, and other developing programs; go to http://hewp.ksc.nasa.gov.

The HEWP intern will assist the Health Education Administrator in every aspect of the HEWP as well as develop, implement and evaluate newly created programs. The KSC HEWP Intern will also have the opportunity to interact with other KSC occupational health programs. The KSC HEWP currently offers one unpaid, 20-40hr/week intern position each semester (fall, spring and summer) to a senior level undergraduate or graduate student in health education, health promotion, public health, or wellness-related field.

USAA is located in Colorado Springs, CO; Norfolk, VA; Phoenix, AZ; Sacramento, CA; San Antonio, TX and Tampa, FL is offering 12 – 16 week corporate fitness internships open to all graduating seniors in an exercise science, health promotion or wellness leadership degree programs.  The intern will become fully proficient in the following areas:  graded exercise testing, exercise prescription, group exercise class instruction, wellness presentations, personal training, ACSM protocol and certification preparation, nutrition, recreation event planning, facility and equipment operations, budgeting, incentive programming and time management.  This is a very comprehensive internship experience guaranteed to prepare you for a career in the fitness field. We are a full service organization providing health, fitness, and recreational needs of business and industry. Services range from center design and program consulting to full staffing and operation of the facility. NCH Healthcare System Cardiac Rehabilitation NCH Healthcare System offers a comprehensive clinical internship for the undergraduate or graduate student. Extensive on-the-job training for cardiac (phases I-IV) and pulmonary rehabilitation will be applied to monitoring exercise progressions, reversing coronary artery disease, risk factor modification, patient education, and student alertness to signs and symptoms. LIFE CENTER Health & Conditioning Club of the Greenville Hospital System, in Greenville, South Carolina, is seeking qualified and highly motivated juniors, seniors or graduate students for its internship program. LIFE CENTER is a 55,000 square foot hospital-based wellness facility which houses the LIFE CENTER Health & Conditioning Club and four clinical programs (cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary rehabilitation, oncology rehabilitation and sports medicine). LifeTime Fitness and Rehabilitation Center is a department of Munroe Regional Medical Center that offers a comprehensive 15 week internship program for those college students seeking to gain experience in a hospital-based cardiac rehabilitation and fitness program. Internship experiences include exercise prescription, sub-maximal exercise testing, exercise leadership, body composition analysis, personalized weight training, review and evaluation of patient/member care plans, and exercise supervision. The Institute for Wellness and Sports Medicine offers fall, spring and summer internships to undergraduate and graduate exercise science and/or physiology students. The Institute is a 42,000 sq. ft. facility which houses Phase II and III Cardio/Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs, community and corporate fitness programs, testing/evaluation programs, and facilities. Interns receive experience in submax and max graded exercise testing, exercise prescription, lifestyle counseling, Phase II and III cardio/pulmonary rehabilitation, business office operations, billing policies and procedures, membership services, and activities designed to enhance compliance and minimize attrition. Students have the opportunity to work with an ACSM certified program director, a Registered Nurse, and B.S., M.S., & Ph.D. level staff members. Medical University of Charleston, South Carolina Wellness Center is offering two twelve week internships to undergraduate students. This 115,000 sq. ft. facility for MUSC staff and students houses a state-of-the-art Human Performance Laboratory in addition to tennis, racquetball, squash, and basketball courts; junior Olympic pool; indoor and outdoor tracks; and a wide variety of fitness equipment and classes. Student interns may undertake responsibilities in the following areas: exercise floor supervision, exercise testing and prescription, fitness instruction, program design and implementation. University of Miami Wellness Center Responsibilities of position: The exercise physiology intern will assist all testing (VO2 max, anaerobic threshold, REE, blood chemistry, body composition) in the fitness laboratory at the University of Miami Wellness Center. The intern will experience all aspects of the field including exercise testing, exercise prescription and administrative duties. Each intern is required to develop, implement and maintain a semester long project/program related to the field. Additional responsibilities include Assist with the LIFE Senior Strength Training Program and perform routine functional tests on program participants. Assist with the Cardiovascular Wellness Program, a scientifically based exercise program for individuals at risk for heart disease. Assist with managing the facility personal training program: responsibilities include coordinating personal training clientele and provide continuing education for personal trainers. Complete 40 hours of personal training healthy and special population clients in the Wellness Center. All candidates should be enrolled in their final year of an accredited Exercise science/physiology program and have some experience/course work in exercise testing, fitness assessment and exercise prescription for special populations. Current CPR certification required. This internship is a 15 week, 40hr/week commitment with a $3000 stipend paid in three payments throughout the internship. One of the United States fastest growing YMCA Associations, we are comprised of eleven branches, five corporate extensions and one resident camp. Sarasota County Government in Sarasota, Florida has internship opportunities for students interested in gaining experience in the health promotion/health education field. Sarasota County is located on the west coast of Florida where there are plenty of gorgeous beaches, recreational activities, multi-cultural experiences and, of course, beautiful weather year round. The Wellness Program serves the needs of over 3,000 employees who work in a wide range of departments including Fire, Utilities, Transportation, Sheriff, Budget, Customer Service and Human Resources. Along with promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors and offering health education programs, the Wellness Division assists employees with medical and health related problems which do not require immediate medical care. Students will have an opportunity to work in the following areas: fitness center supervision and operation; developing, planning and teaching of various wellness and health promotion programs; coordinating the employee wellness committee; creating the newsletter; marketing the programs; special events; employee games; and many more aspects of the program.
