USAA is located in Colorado Springs, CO; Norfolk, VA; Phoenix, AZ; Sacramento, CA; San Antonio, TX and Tampa, FL is offering 12 – 16 week corporate fitness internships open to all graduating seniors in an exercise science, health promotion or wellness leadership degree programs.  The intern will become fully proficient in the following areas:  graded exercise testing, exercise prescription, group exercise class instruction, wellness presentations, personal training, ACSM protocol and certification preparation, nutrition, recreation event planning, facility and equipment operations, budgeting, incentive programming and time management.  This is a very comprehensive internship experience guaranteed to prepare you for a career in the fitness field. Must have great communication skills and be motivated to learn.

 

San Antonio location only:  Recreation Internship – available to graduating seniors majoring in Recreation/Sports Management.

We are a full service organization providing health, fitness, and recreational needs of business and industry. We have internships available at the Corpus Christi Athletic Club in Corpus Christi, Texas.  We offer Junior or Senior Kinesiology/Sport Management students the opportunity to complete their required internship/field experience at the largest mulit-purpose health club in south Texas.  Our 110,000 sq. ft. facility houses a wide variety of programs for our members, including a 9000 sq. ft. fitness center.

Marriott Management Services, in Norman, Oklahoma, is offering challenging and diverse internships for qualified graduate and undergraduate students at the USPS Technical Training Center Housing Facility. This 60,000 sq. ft. fitness facility features state-of-the-art cardiovascular and strength training equipment, exercise testing lab, aerobics studio, basketball and racquetball courts, outdoor pool and softball field. Internship provides practical work experience for students interested in the field of health promotion within a corporate setting. Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to: aerobic/aquatic programs, presentation of health education seminars, development of marketing/promotion strategies for various programs, competency with a variety of computer software, facility/equipment maintenance, daily operations, fitness testing/exercise prescription, sport/recreation programs. Nancy Lieberman Basketball Camps/Clinics in Carrollton, Texas is looking for the Spring, Fall and Summer terms. Siegfried Health Club at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma is a nationally recognized hospital-based fitness/wellness center with 4,400 members. Baylor Tom Landry Center, in Dallas, Texas, is offering internship opportunities for students interested in gaining experience in a multi-service, state-of-the-art sports wellness and research center. This seven story complex, located on the Baylor University Medical Center campus, houses doctor’s offices and clinics for medical specialties including cardiac rehabilitation, physical therapy, sports medicine, and others. Adjacent to the building is a three story health and fitness facility which has a complete array of exercise and fitness testing equipment. This multi-purpose facility offers extensive programming for fitness and wellness activities. The Hills Fitness Center, in Austin, Texas, has internship opportunities for undergraduate/graduate students seeking to gain practical experience in the operations of a large, multi-purpose fitness club and several onsite corporate fitness centers. The University Club is a Private, Sports/Business club located in the Prestigious Galleria area of Houston. The Lincoln City Club, located in Dallas, Texas offers internships for enthusiastic and motivated undergraduate students in exercise science, exercise physiology, fitness management, kinesiology, health promotion or a related field who are looking to develop their skills and career in the health and fitness industry. Interns will have the chance to expand their knowledge and experience in fitness assessment, exercise prescription, health promotion, wellness, lifestyle counseling, exercise leadership, recreational programming, club management, marketing, special interest project, and more. The Lincoln City Club is a 50,000 sq. ft. facility with an eighth of a mile indoor running track along with a weight room including Cybex, Body Master, Keiser, and free weight equipment. The Cooper Fitness Center, a 40,000 square-foot health facility located in North Dallas, is one of the eight divisions of Dr. Kenneth Cooper's Aerobics Center. The Cooper Fitness Center internship program seeks students enrolled in a health-related field with a working knowledge of exercise physiology and a desire to provide excellence in customer service. Fall and spring internships are 12-week programs and summer internships are 10-week programs. Interns will gain hands-on experience in a variety of different areas that will enhance their professional growth in the health and fitness industry. The Seretean Wellness Center at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, is seeking college student interns. Internships are available to students with backgrounds in exercise science, health/wellness, health promotion, physical education, marketing/advertising, nutrition, computer science, or student personnel. The Center, a 30,000 sq. ft. facility, offers adult fitness, cardiac rehabilitation, and other health promotion programs. Interns will gain experience and have responsibilities in the following areas: fitness testing, exercise prescription, exercise program orientation, exercise supervision, facilities operations, health promotion, wellness counseling, marketing, development and implementation of special programs, and organization and distribution of health education materials. Strong personal interaction skills and a strong personal interest in health and fitness preferred. Interns should exhibit characteristics of good health and serve as an appropriate role model. They should possess good communication skills and a high level of enthusiasm. Computer knowledge is helpful. CPR certification is required and offered during training. Duration is 14 weeks minimum. The Cooper Institute is a nonprofit research and education center dedicated to advancing the understanding of the relationship between living habits and health and to providing leadership in implementing these concepts to enhance the physical and emotional well-being of individuals. Internship positions are available for the spring, summer, and fall. Study tracks include the areas of Epidemiology, Clinical Applications, Continuing Education and Health Promotion. Opportunities include exercise testing, wellness programs, children's health, physical activity interventions, clinical trials, and health and fitness workshops. Other opportunities for the intern are field trips, weekly seminars, access to a professional library with holdings in the areas of general sports medicine, epidemiology, behavioral science, exercise physiology, cardiology, and nutrition, quarterly literature reviews to discuss current published research studies, and interns have use of the Cooper Fitness Center for the duration of their internship. As one of the largest metropolitan YMCAs in the country, this 150,000 square foot facility includes an indoor swimming pool; jogging tracks; 2 aerobics exercise studios; cardiovascular exercise areas with ellipticals, stairmasters, treadmills, stationary bikes and more; 9 racquetball and handball courts; 4 squash courts; 3 basketball courts; Olympic weight room; Cybex with Fitlynxx installed; Ground Zero Circuit; Hi-Tech equipment; pro shop; deli food bar; lounge area and 2 indoor parking lots. Interns will be exposed to a comprehensive wellness program with an emphasis on fitness, sports management, and marketing. Internships are available to students with backgrounds in exercise science, sports management, recreation, health education, nutrition, marketing/advertising, facility operations and program management. Intern responsibilities may include fitness testing, nutrition, exercise counseling, fitness programming and supervision, membership retention, health promotion and education, teaching classes, working with volunteers, marketing and sports management. In addition, the fall semester internship offers a special opportunity to work directly with the management of the Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot. This major road race event attracts 20,000 runners on Thanksgiving morning and requires extensive work in planning, organization and promotion.
