Here is how we deliver results:

  • Publish the National Internship Directory (founded in 1989) for college students looking for internships.

  • Focus on a limited number of fields which emphasize "hands on" experience as part of the degree program.

  • Distribute directly to specific university programs where students are seeking internships (see partial university list)

  • Maintain personal relationships with university internship coordinators and other placement personnel.

  • Deliver qualified candidates through out the year by publishing annual listings (because many students plan ahead, others don't.  And the year around exposure is great for employers)!

  • Charge a  reasonable, flat fee of $135.00 for one annual listing (unlimited candidates).

Why list in a National Internship Directory? Because you are able to draw from a larger pool of students than you could access on your own. And, not only does your quantity of candidates increase but the quality of respondents increases too because students are able to "self qualify" their interests against a variety of internship opportunities.  We publish listings for a year at a time because you never know when students are planning their internship; some plan ahead and others wait. Plus, it gives us a chance to guarentee value for your listing fee

I encourage you to explore this Web site and get comfortable with our service. Then, send us your listing and start hearing from intern candidates!

Best regards,

Keys to a Successful Internship Program

I.

Develop a structured program that guides supervisors in the effective management of the interns, and guides the interns in becoming contributing staff members. It is vital you have some structured guidelines for both you and the interns. Create an Intern Program Manual that defines your purpose and goals, how the interns will be managed, what is expected of the interns, what you will do for the interns, etc. This gives the student a sense of direction and purpose that they can depend on for their professional growth during this experience.

II.

Recruit qualified students from the leading academic institutions specializing in your business specialty. Don’t just identify the schools in your local area but look nationally as well. Students who go to school far away may have family or friends in your area or may just want to try a new adventure. Get your internship announcement listed in the major directories (like Internsearch.com) where students look for opportunities. Develop a mailing list of contacts at as many schools as possible and send out regular mailings about your program. Select contacts who are directly involved with helping students find internships (of course, this is what Internsearch.com does on your behalf)..

III.

Screen and select interns based on a carefully designed profile that describes the kind of student intern that would best fit within your organization. Know what it is you are looking for in a student intern and seek that out when interviewing students. This will help to prevent mismatches. What prerequisites do you expect? What kind of professional skills do they need to have? What kind of personal skills do they need to have? What about any prior job experience or special skills? (This should all go into your listing on Internsearch.com as well.)

IV.

Consistently place a  predetermined number of interns at your business to meet staffing needs, provide added service and support future programs. It is very important to determine the ideal number of student interns to have at your business at any one time. Having too many will result in lots of unhappy interns who don’t feel like they are getting the kind of attention and opportunity they should expect. Having too few could prevent you from realizing the true value of an intern program and might keep you from investing the kind of time, effort and resources that are necessary to build a successful program. Make sure to plan for the down time between semesters so there is as little disruption to your operation as possible. Expect and plan for the turnover of interns—it’s supposed to happen!
